Although Bangladesh may be known to most through the short news clips which highlight latest season of destructive flooding and killer cyclones that pound the area, there is much more to this country. There are things worth seeing. Bangladesh has a rich and varied history and a strong national identity that shows its people. It offers to very unique features that add to its appeal as a tourist destination: One, it is home to the largest littoral mangrove forest on the planet; and two, it has one of the world's longest beaches.
For a slice of history, go and explore some of the country's current archaeological sites, some of which date back over 2,000 years. If tromping in the dirt isn't your cup of tea, then perhaps, a tour of the 19th-century mansions once dwelled in by maharajas.
