About Barbados
While it is known as the "Little England" of the Caribbean, it would be a mistake to call Barbados a country given completely over to British customs and cuisine. On the contrary, the island's local inhabitants, called Bajans, are decidedly West Indian culturally speaking with selection portions of British custom mixed in. Barbados' isolated position in the Caribbean has sheltered it from much of the turmoil that plagued the rest of the region throughout history as Spain, Denmark, and France all battled over control of the islands.
